Dr Paul Roux, PATA co-founder and senior lecturer in Paediatrics at the University of Cape Town, has been honoured for his contribution to child health care. He has been awarded the Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Health Professions Council of South Africa. The award acknowledges Paul’s 25 years in health care and the numerous initiatives he has started to improve the health of people in Africa – particularly children. In particular, it was awarded for his co-founding of PATA which has been helping improve the lives of children living with HIV throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
"PATA does not tell people what to do, but helps them discover common goals and to collaborate to get things done," says Paul
Listening to other people's ideas is what excites Paul, and gives him and PATA the energy to move forward. PATA is proud to have its co-founder acknowledged in such a way and hopes that his dedication to improving the lives of children will inspire others to also take the initiative when they see gaps in care in the future.
